Right to Information

Right to Information (RTI) is Queensland Government's approach to giving the community greater access to information whilst providing appropriate protection for individuals' privacy. The Queensland Government has made a commitment to provide access to information held by government agencies, unless on balance it is considered to be contrary to the public interest to provide the information. For further information about Whole of Government policy and the relevant legislation, please visit www.rti.qld.gov.au.

The Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009 replaced the Freedom of Information (FOI) laws and provide appropriate safeguards for the way the public sector handles an individual's personal information.

Important Information for applicants:

The Department of Community Safety Information Rights Unit has moved to the Public Safety Business Agency (PSBA). PSBA was established as a result of the recommendations of the Police and Community Safety Review (PACSR). PSBA will provide corporate services support to the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).

All RTI and IPA applications for QFES are to be referred on to the QPS Right to Information and Privacy Group.
